Uber Eats moved to the Cannabis market. Starting today, users in Ontario can make orders at Tokyo’s retailer smoking through the application. Don’t expect a Uber driver to deliver the joints. Order marijuana is only pickup for now.
Users need to find “cannabis” or “Tokyo Smoke” and confirm them from legal age before they can buy. Orders will be ready to be picked up within an hour. In the store, the buyer must present their ID to the staff of Smoke Tokyo to prove that they are 19 years or more.
With the help of fast exchange turnover, Smoke Uber and Tokyo hope they can direct the business of those who handle pots illegally. Uber said the underground market accounted for 40 percent of non-medical marijuana sales in Canada, where recreational use was passed in 2018.
Cannabis is a new market for Uber. The company does not mention whether it will offer purchases of marijuana in other provinces or through other retailers, or if it will eventually provide orders. Uber has made a breakthrough in alcohol delivery, and CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said earlier this year the company could give marijuana in the US if it was approved at the federal level.
