Microsoft is replacing Windows Media Player with Media Player for Windows 11

Microsoft has built a new media playback application for Windows 11 to replace Windows Media Player, which has not really changed since 2009, and the Groove Music application. Insider Windows can start testing the media player which is creatively named for Windows 11 now.

This application is designed for music and video playback. If you have attached to the Groove Music application to manage your track library, even after Microsoft Axed Groove Music Services in 2017, you can update it to a new media player. Your library and playlist will automatically migrate, as a record of Gizmodo.

Microsoft says users will be able to quickly browse their libraries to find what they want to listen to, and make and manage playlists. During playback, you will see the art of album and “image of rich artists” in full screen and mini-player. This application will add files from your music and video pc folders too. Through settings, users can tell the media player where else looking for items to be brought to the library.

There are options that focus on accessibility in the application too. Microsoft said they included “enhanced keyboard shortcuts and access key access for keyboard users and with other auxiliary technology.”

Media Player currently has several problems, Microsoft Notes, including those affecting playback from several network locations, editing album metadata and library content with accented characters. You can still access the old version of Windows Media Player via Windows Tools.

Of course, the media player design reflects the cleanesthetics of Windows 11. This application looks good and it is a cherry on a long and long-awaited Windows Media Media media reshuffle. It’s a shame that Microsoft chooses a boring name for new applications, but at least the user doesn’t need to be confused about what it does.
