Nike is building its metaverse inside of ‘Roblox’

Meta and Microsoft are not the only company with ambitions for metaverse. On Thursday, Nike announced a partnership with Roblox to offer a free virtual playroom named Nikeland. In current iterations, nikeland includes minigame such as tags, dodgeball and lava floors that players can check out with their friends. Cellular integration allows you to use your mobile to translate real life movements into the game. That way, you can do things like long leaps and fast sprints. Naturally, there is also a digital showroom where players can get Nike Swag for their avatars.

According to CNBC, it was only the beginning of what the brand had planned for space. In the future, it can host competitions related to global sports events. For example, it can host a soccer game when the 2022 World Cup starts in Qatar. Showrooms can also be one day teasing the release of future products and allow users to make shared goods.

Not surprisingly seeing Nike’s partners with Roblox in the metaverse drama. With more than 200 million monthly active user estimates, it is one of the most popular games among children and adolescents. By offering empty space where young people can interact with the brand, Nike creates a way for them to become a customer in the real world.
