Apple might hone the focus of its long-term electric car. The Bloomberg source claims Apple is now distracting it to cars that are fully driving, not just more conventional vehicles with semi-autonomic features. Kevin Lynch’s new project leader wants the first model to drive himself, said inside.
The company reportedly accelerated its plan to match. Where Apple recently targeted launch in five to seven years, the sources said it was now aim at 2025, or only four years. The plan is believed to be “liquid,” however, and revolves around Apple completing a full autonomous system on time. Apple should finish many “core jobs” on the car processor.
Tipsters also advise Apple has an “ideal” interior in mind with seating like a lounge for passengers, the touch screen infotainments system in the middle and no steering wheel or pedal. Emergency takeover mode has been discussed, the source added.
Apple refused to comment. New priorities can help projects that have seen the share of decline, including departing executives and SKIT partners. The company can match or defeat petting car manufacturers who plan to offer full or almost full autonomy at the same time, such as VW. However, full self-driving has many challenges, including traffic that is difficult to predict and weather problems such as snow. Not surprisingly if Apple must delay the car, or at least ask the driver to take over in certain conditions.
